The West End Electric sits right out front, the new theatre on Boundary Street, and Intermission is the bar pressed up against it. There is a door between the two you can walk through, so you can watch a show and end up in here without going back out to the street. It is the first standalone bar the live entertainment group Strut & Fret has run, after years of building rooms for other people.
The food is Spanish and French and built to share, charcuterie sliced to order, Yarra Valley caviar on a potato pavé, toasties and a lobster roll. The cocktails lean into the theatre next door. There is a Choc Top Martini, vanilla vodka and cold brew and a nut rim, and a Popcorn Sour made with popcorn-infused whisky. Entry prices stay low if you only want one, a focaccia at $9, a mocktail at $14, a glass of wine from $11.
The part that matters in Brisbane is the hours. Most kitchens here are done by nine, and this one keeps the full menu running until 1am on Friday and Saturday. So you can come out of a late show, or finish work past the point where everywhere else has shut, and still order properly rather than scrape together a chip.

What to get. The Choc Top Martini, if only to see it, and a Popcorn Sour after. To share, the loaded crisps with prosciutto and the charcuterie sliced to order. If you are spending, the Yarra Valley caviar. If you are not, a focaccia and a glass off the Australian list does the job.
Going. Open Tuesday to Sunday, with the full kitchen running to 1am Friday and Saturday. Walk in, or book a table by emailing intermission@strutnfret.com with Booking in the subject line.
